Yes, teeth whitening is safe when performed under the guidance of a trained professional. Our whitening system uses only natural ingredients and we are trained through Davinci Teeth Whitening, which is the only teeth whitening system sponsored by the American Holistic Dental Association.
You may feel a slight tingling and in rare instances temporary tooth or gum sensitivity, particularly to cold that may last for a few hours to 1-2 days. Bleaching of the gum line may occur but is also temporary. Our products will not damage existing dental work and only remove stains on these artificial crowns, teeth and venires, but will not whiten them beyond their original color.
White spots may appear more prevalent directly after whitening, but contrast will lessen within 24 hours. Everyone's teeth respond differently and have their own natural "stop" point.
You may experience temporary gum irritation, which is more prevalent in clients that have brush abrasion within 4 hours prior to whitening. You should consult with your dentist about whether teeth whitening is right for you.
Our products offer enamel strengthening qualities and are derived from organic plant and mineral based ingredients and contain NO animal by-products. The active ingredient is a Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide.
To maintain healthy teeth and gums, it is recommended that you visit your dentist on a regular basis. If you have allergies or reactions to peroxide or glycerin, teeth whitening is not recommended. If you have diabetes, heart conditions, are pregnant, and/or currently breastfeeding, you should consult with your doctor prior to using whitening products. Ask your clinician for a list of ingredients if you have concerns. Any existing mouth sores may feel temporary irritation during and/or after whitening.
Teeth whitening does not take the place of regular dental checkups and cleanings nor does it treat tooth or gum disease.
After signing in, the doctor or assistant will take you to a comfortable room and offer you a blanket if needed. We will first determine your starting shade of staining and a picture of your teeth is taken. We use sterile equipment that is thoroughly cleaned between clients. The doctor or therapist will help fit you with a mouth guard and then will apply Vitamin E to your gum line to prevent sensitivity to the peroxide. After applying the Vitamin E, he or she will apply the peroxide gel to the visible area of the teeth. A blue laser is then placed over your mouth and he or she will return to check on you. After verifying that you are comfortable, your clinician will reapply vitamin E to any areas of the gums they feels is necessary. You are then left alone under the laser light for the remainder of your 20 minute session.
At the end of this session, the light is removed, the mouth guard is removed and you area allowed to rinse with water. At this time you can go to the restroom or drink water if needed. These steps are then repeated two more times in most cases. If you begin to experience sensitivity in the first or second session you may be asked to reschedule to complete your whitening a week or two later to give your sensitivity time to resolve. At the completion of your treatment, your ending whiteness level is determined and you will be given instructions to follow for the next 24 hours.
It is recommended that you only drink water for the first 2 hours after your whitening session. This helps decrease sensitivity. Do not smoke or chew tobacco for at least two hours. Avoid any dark food or beverages for 24 hours as the pores of your teeth may take that long to fully close. Eating or drinking dark food or water during this time may cause staining of your teeth. You may eat clear or white types of food. For instance clear soda is ok, but dark soda is not. After 2 hours you may consume, water, white wine, white chicken, port, turkey, noodles, white sauce, white cheese, potatoes, ect.
For the next 48 hours: brush your teeth very gently with a white toothpaste, DO NOT BRUSH YOUR GUMS, avoid using a whitening or baking soda tooth paste. Any sensitivity is usually gone in 24 hours. You may choose to purchase the Davinci desensitizing gel or take a mild pain reliever. You can purchase a home maintenance kit and/or whitening pen to help maintain your smile. Results typically last 6-12 months depending on your diet and if you smoke.
